Boiler feed water was held in a receiver tank where it was pre-heated to about 100oC by surplus exhaust steam.  In the 1960s this tank was an old Lancashire boiler located in the East boiler-house on the RH side of the chimney. When this form of pre-heating was first installed is unclear.  Surprisingly, there does not appear to have been any economiser fitted at Pleasley
