Beneath the empty-side mine-car rails adjacent to the shaft is a low chamber containing pneumatic equipment involved in the decking and loading operations. This includes the mine-car loading-ram operating valves, stop-catch operating rams, arrestor catch operating rams, kep operating rams and various interlock shuttle valves.
The loading rams were activated by levers in the banksman’s cabin located above the rails with the levers mechanically linked to the control-valves mounted below the rails.
