• The North shaft sump originally extended down from the Top Hard decking level at about 516 yds to the shaft bottom 7 yds. below.

• It’s not clear whether that sump held water or not.

• When the shaft was deepened to the 2nd Waterloo level a sump would have been constructed to carry the balance rope suspended below the cages.
