Location

Section under development

The colliery is located to the NW of Pleasley village on the north side of the river Meden which forms the boundary between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire  at this point. It lies 3 miles (4.8km) north of Mansfield and 9 miles (14.5km) south of Chesterfield.

It is situated at about 500ft (152m) above sea level. The colliery is aligned  on a NE-SW axis following the trend of the valley at this point and about 130ft (39.5m) above the valley bottom.

From the South it commands a prominent position on the skyline, although less so now than when the pit-tip behind it was smaller and both chimney stacks were in place.
