  • Upcast shaft converted to coal winding.

1890s

  • Coal haulage by horse limiting production.
  • underground electric haulages installed.
  • Great Northern railway operating mineral traffic.
  • Lease acquired for working South of the river.
  • Decision to upgrade South pit coal winding capacity.
